Hands on Learning

"All Genuine learning comes through experience." -John Dewey.

Those who know me know that I believe firmly in hands-on and experience-based learning.  Authentic learning can only be achieved through putting facts and Knowledge into practice.  The application of Knowledge will create lifelong understanding and learners.  As said, "Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.  Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad." -Miles Kington.

Since it is my charge to instill wisdom in my students, we must apply our Knowledge.  So at this time, we are designing, modeling, and building an aquarium stand for our fish tanks.  I guide the students to ensure students use Knowledge from Math, Science, and Art to design a stable, functional, and aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture.
This project goes further into learning how to use drills, impact drivers, saws, speed squares, measuring tapes, and various other tools.  We start by going over safety procedures and practical use.  Then students get to do some hands-on practice before building our aquarium stand.
